Jess began her martial arts journey in 2008 with Shotokan Karate. This traditional Japanese style of Karate taught her not only how to condition her body, but mind and spirit as well. In 2016, Jess went on to start teaching Yoga, breath work and meditation. These practices helped further her understanding of stability, balance and functional movement. Finally, in 2019 Jess began training and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art that emphasizes technique and leverage over speed and strength.
With the combination of these practices, Jess approaches self-defense in a practical and well rounded way. She is a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and teaches yoga in the Tacoma area. She is maintains active training in all of these disciplines
