Bright Spot Fridays

I don’t know about you but I’ve had some periods of pretty low motivation during this period of social distancing. I find myself un-motivated to attend a zoom class or  lift weights on my own - because “what's the point anyway?” Ultimate frisbee is cancelled for the year and I can’t really get out and climb and hike with others.

I know It's really easy to feel down, lost, and unmotivated right now! I’ve also noticed that I instantly feel better after getting out and moving.

So how do we stay motivated?

Here’s what I know:

  1. Success has to happen before you’ll become motivated
  2. Success has to KEEP happening.
  3. People don’t always recognize success when it happens. We’re pretty hard on ourselves.

I’ve noticed this being even more difficult during the isolation of Covid. Without connecting with others or having the routine of classes it is easy to forget to recognize my achievements and successes. It takes more work to see my improvements.

Something we do at our weekly meetings as a staff is share our bright spots. At first this is difficult - it's hard to compliment yourself - especially when it feels like everyone is suffering around you. Yes, times are hard right now and it is also important to recognize our wins. After a while this will become a re-energizing and motivating habit.

So, starting this Friday we are launching Bright Spot Fridays. Don’t worry, I’ll go first! And I encourage you to post as well even if it feels like a TINY bright spot. To make it easier start with something fitness related. What did you do Well, Best or for the First time this week? Post on our Ascent Member Group.
